Well today was an interesting day to say the least. I went into work this morning just like I always do, but was still having headaches and my vision started to have spots so I called the doctor. Of course they wanted me to come in to see what was going on so in I went. After being there for about an hour, they decided to send me to St. V's, since Dr. Sue was on call that day. I called Nick and let him know what was going on. We weren't sure if I was having Emma that day or if I'd be staying at the hospital for awhile. When I walked in Dr. Sue took one look at me and said I looked awful. I was put in triage and they ran all kinds of tests. Of course everything was coming back fine, however the physical exam was an issue and showed that I had severe preeclampsia which meant that Emma needed to come ASAP. I called Nick and told him what was going on, he wanted to go home and shower, but I said sorry, no time, she is coming now and you need to get here. This was about 130 when I called him. At 215 they were wheeling me into the O.R. getting ready for Emma's arrival. It was nervewracking, especially with how quickly everything was going on, but we knew it was for the best.
Emma Therese came into the world screaming at 246 on March 16. She was so tiny and had lots of dark hair. She was having a hard time breathing so she was taken down to the NICU and observed for awhile. That was one of the hardest things that I've ever had to deal with. Not being able to see her and be with her was extremely difficult, and letting other people go down and see her, was just not fair. Luckily Nick was awesome and I told him no one was allowed to hold her until I got too. Nick texted me at one point and told me that she was doing good, and if she kept behaving she would come up to our room later that night.
We stayed up waiting for her and finally at 3am I got to meet and snuggle with Miss Emma and it was perfect and so wonderful. I couldn't believe how tiny she is and she just is so small. So far she is doing great and behaving wonderfully, one can only hope that it will continue!
